Throwback Thursday: Bell Biv DeVoe - "Poison"

The first single from New Edition offshoot Bell Biv DeVoe (Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins and Ronnie DeVoe), 1990's "Poison" single fit perfectly within that era's defining new jack swing sound: heavy drum machines, synthesizers and Hip-Hop influence. Written and produced by Elliot Straite, AKA DJ Freeze for their album of the same name, "Poison" peaked at number three on the Billboard Top 100 chart for four consecutive weeks, beginning on June 9, 1990. The single also peaked at number one on the Hot Black Singles chart for two weeks and became one of the most successful singles of 1990, It was also a staple on MTV as well as mainstream radio and remains a club-banger today.
