Friday Night Throwback: Mya - "Case Of The Ex (Whatcha Gonna Do)"
In light of Mya releasing her 7th album Smoove Jones, last month, this week's Friday Night Throwback is dedicated to the stalwart artist. who over her 18-year career has sold 3.2 million albums in the United States alone, 7 million albums worldwide, had a No. 1 hit, three Top 10 singles and eight Top 40 impressions all on the Billboard Hot 100. "Case Of The Ex (Whatcha Gonna Do)", the second single from her second album Fear of Flying, was one of those aforementioned Top 10 singles. Written and produced by Christopher "Tricky" Stewart and his songwriting partners Traci Hale and Thabiso "Tab" Nkhereanyne, the song which was originally a rap song, told the tale of a committed woman refusing to let her man go back to his ex. Backed by a persuasive keyboard hook and Mya's syrupy vocals, "Case Of The Ex (Whatcha Gonna Do)" became a top five hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 for the week of December 2, 2000, peaking and spending three consecutive weeks at number two.
