Sean Kingston Settles Gang Rape Lawsuit

TMZ.com:
Sean Kingston has settled up with the 22-year-old girl who accused the singer and his former bodyguards of gang rape back in 2010, sources close to Kingston tell TMZ.

Sources tell us, Kingston settled NOT because he's admitting guilt, but because his upcoming tour and new album release will prevent him from focusing his energies on a messy civil trial.

Our sources close to Kingston's team say he paid the alleged victim only a fraction of what she asked for in order to make the lawsuit disappear as soon as possible. They didn't tell us the exact amount of the settlement.

That said, we're told Kingston believes he would have won the case outright if it went to trial ... the same way he dodged criminal charges three years ago.

As one source said, "Her story wasn't consistent. She told various stories throughout her interviews with police. Her friend's story wasn't consistent with hers. The medical report had no indications of force."

As we reported, Kingston acknowledged having sex with the girl -- when she was 19 -- but said the sex was consensual. The lawsuit is expected to be dismissed shortly.

TGT’s ‘Three Kings’ Debuts at No. 1 on R&B Chart

EURWeb.com:
*TGT – the R&B super-trio featuring Tyrese, Ginuwine and Tank – debuts at the summit of Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums with “Three Kings,” moving 76,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The set’s impressive debut was bolstered by lead single “Sex Never Felt Better,” which peaked at No. 13 on the Adult R&B chart in May, and follow-up “I Need,” which is currently climbing that chart and reaches a new peak of No. 15 this week.
Collectively, the trio has placed 30 titles on the Adult R&B ranking, with 13 reaching the top 10 and four (two each by the two T’s) reaching No. 1, according to Billboard.

Individually, each of the group’s artists has had plentiful success on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Below is a breakdown of how the artists stack up against each other in terms of top 10s, No. 1s, cumulative sales and biggest albums.

Total No. 1 Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums
Tank – 3
Ginuwine – 2
Tyrese – 0

Total Top 10 Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums
Ginuwine – 6
Tank – 5
Tyrese – 5

In terms of total album sales, Ginuwine has shifted the most, with 6.98 million, while Tyrese has moved 3.69 million. Tank has sold 1.76 million albums. Ginuwine’s best seller is 1999′s “100% Ginuwine,” with 2 million; while Tyrese’s self-titled 1999 debut is his biggest, with 1.3 million. Tank’s “Force of Nature,” released in 2001, is his largest seller, with 775,000.

Entering just below TGT at No. 2 on R&B/Hip-Hop Albums is “Doris,” the debut album from Earl Sweatshirt, with 49,000 copies. The 19-year old rapper is a member of Los Angeles’ Odd Future collective, which now has taken six albums to the top 10 of the list. “Wolf,” the sophomore set from de facto crew leader Tyler, the Creator, was the last Odd Future-connected album to debut, bowing at No. 1 on April 20th with 89,000.

Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” slips 2-3 with a 5% decline to 46,000 while A$AP Ferg’s “Trap Lord” opens at No. 4 with 32,000 copies. The Harlem fashion designer-turned-rapper belongs to the A$AP Mob, also home to A$AP Rocky and his No.1-debuting “Long.Live.A$AP” (139,000 first-week copies on Feb. 2nd). Ferg’s first single, “Work,” peaked at No. 30 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, thanks in part to its remix featuring French Montana, Trinidad James, Schoolboy Q and A$AP Rocky. Follow-up single “Shabba,” also featuring Rocky, reaches a new peak of No. 40 in its third week on the list.

Closing out the top five of Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums is Jay Z’s “Magna Carta Holy Grail” sliding 3-5 with a 21% drop to 30,000. Last week’s No. 1, K. Michelle’s “Rebellious Soul,” falls to No. 6 thanks to the three big debuts and its 69% fall to 23,000 copies.

Over on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Robin Thicke sets a new personal longest run atop the chart with “Blurred Lines” ruling for 12 consecutive weeks. His previous best was 11 weeks with “Lost Without U” in 2007. Jay Z’s “Holy Grail” stays put at No. 2 but could challenge Robin Thicke’s run next week. “Holy Grail’s” music video premiered today (Aug. 29), which could earn the song further streaming points, enabling it to overtake “Blurred” at No. 1.

Mistress of Beyonce's Dad Apologizes for Affair

Bossip.com:
Alexsandra Wright, the woman who blew the lid off her affair with Beyonce's father Matthew Knowles, apologized for sleeping with Matthew, which led to a three-year-old son. The affair also broke up the 31-year marriage between Matthew and Tina Knowles, and Alexsandra detailed the situation in a public statement to Sandra Rose.

"It is with a heavy heart we must head back to Superior Court to continue the fight for the rights of my son Nixon Knowles, who has proven to be Mathew Knowles' biological son. My family and I have exhausted every non-legal avenue to urge Mathew to be a responsible father and to follow the stipulated judgment we reached together, which was approved by California's Superior Court."

She continued, "We have attempted to appeal to him and his team to adhere to that agreement and the court's stipulated judgment in regard to our son's education, outstanding medical expenses and other issues, with the hopes of keeping this situation private, considering all parties involved. Unfortunately, we have been unsuccessful with any sort of private negotiation."

Alexsandra also apologized to Beyonce, Solange, and Tina, "I regret the pain that I have contributed to his family and to my own family. I have the utmost respect and admiration for both of his daughters – they are both lovely women. I also regret the pain that this situation has caused his ex-wife, Tina, and very much wish one day I will get the opportunity to tell her personally."

James Brown Biopic Lands '42' Star Chadwick Boseman

CNN.com:
It looks like Chadwick Boseman is set to play another American legend.

The actor who played the man who broke baseball's color barrier, Jackie Robinson, in April's "42" is now set to play James Brown in Universal's upcoming biopic about the iconic singer.

Boseman received critical acclaim when he played the Brooklyn Dodger first baseman, and he's now being tasked with taking on arguably one of R&B's greatest artists. But he wasn't the only one considered for the part.

The film - which began as a project back in 2001 - has gone through many different potential Godfathers of Soul, including Wesley Snipes and Eddie Murphy (who famously played Brown in the "James Brown's Celebrity Hot Tub Party" sketch back on "Saturday Night Live" in the 80s) before going with Boseman.

However, there will be more than just one music legend on set. Rolling Stone frontman Mick Jagger is producing the film under his Jagged Films banner, along with Imagine Entertainment's Brian Grazer and Erica Huggins.

Tate Taylor - who directed "The Help" - will be filming the as-yet-untitled biopic in Mississippi this fall.

As for Boseman, he'll have time to practice his moves before he dons Brown's dancing shoes, as he next stars in Ivan Reitman's 2014 release, "Draft Day."

Johnny Gill Sues Hotel Because Drunk White Man Beat Him Up

EurWeb.com:
*Good Lord, what have we here?

Courthouse News is reporting that singer Johnny Gill has filed a lawsuit in Superior Court against the Four Seasons Beverly Hills.

Gill is claiming the hotel didn’t intervene when a drunk white man hurled racial insults at him and beat him so badly he was unable to perform.

Whaaaat?! Where was his buddy, Barry Bonds? Or Eddie Murphy? Anyway, we digress.

Specifically, the assault happened 2 years ago at the Four Seasons on Doheny Drive in Beverly Hills on Aug. 23, 2011, Gill, 47, is claiming in his suit.

So why is he just now suing? (We digress again)

“Plaintiff was seated at the patio area of the dining/cocktail area with friends,” the complaint states.
There’s more:
“At approximately 11 p.m. on said date, another guest who was obviously very inebriated sitting at another table in the patio area, without provocation hurled racially charged remarks at plaintiff.
“Plaintiff is African American and this individual who uttered these racially charged negatives remarks was Caucasian.
“Plaintiff objected to these unsolicited remarks and when he did so, this individual pushed plaintiff with such force and intensity that plaintiff was thrust up against a heating lamp causing great bodily injury with resulting pain and suffering, major medical expenses and loss of earnings as plaintiff was unable to perform as an entertainer, plaintiff’s extremely successful and lucrative chosen profession for over 20 years.
“At no time did defendant’s security employees, staff or representative offer any assistance to plaintiff nor did any such intervene to protect plaintiff, prevent the individual from becoming inebriated and thus behaving in an unruly manner the result of which was the assault that was committed on plaintiff and the resulting injuries to plaintiff.”
Johnny Gill is seeking $1 million in damages for negligence, failure to intervene, failure to exercise reasonable care, pain and suffering and medical expenses. He is represented by attorney Michael Shapiro.

Chris Brown Won't Be Charged in Alleged Nightclub Attack

TMZ.com:
Good news for Chris Brown -- for once -- the singer WON'T be prosecuted for allegedly attacking a female clubgoer at an O.C. bar back in June ... TMZ has learned.

We broke the story ... 24-year-old Deanna Gines claimed CB violently shoved her down at Heat Ultra Lounge ... causing serious damage to her knee.

But Deanna's claims seemed fishy from the get go ... CB and the club's owner said she was full of it. Not to mention we got video of her walking around on her "injured" leg minutes after the alleged incident.

Now, it seems the Anaheim City Attorney also smelled BS ... 'cause the office rejected the case last week citing insufficient evidence.

As for Deanna, she's still trying to sue Chris for her so-called suffering. Good luck with that.

The reuniting group consists of four of the five original members: Dawn Richard, Aubrey O'Day, Aundrea Fimbres and Shannon Bex. D. Woods will not be joining for she "signed on to several projects that will have me committed for the next year."

Richard, O'Day, Fimbres and Bex made their first appearance as a group at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (Aug. 25), strutting arm-in-arm. "I think we really missed doing music together," Fimbres told Billboard while on the show's red carpet.

New music from Danity Kane is "coming real soon," Richard said. "[There's] an album's worth of new music.

We're working with the amazing Stereotypes, who as you know they've done 'Damage.' We have a new record called, 'Rage.' it's a better sound for us. It's a live sound. Danity Kane with live guitar, live drums [and] more of a rock vibe. People will be pleasantly surprised at how we're coming."

"We're focused on Danity Kane. When we get into the studio it's just organic for us. Second to that, it's the stage," O'Day added.

Rumors of a reunion sparked when the girls were spotted at lunch in Los Angeles on May 13. The ladies played coy when asked if they were planning a comeback, but O'Day spoke up when asked if Diddy will be involved: "Who's that?

Robin Thicke Ties Personal Record Atop Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs

Billboard.com:
As "Blurred Lines" picks up an 11th week atop Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Robin Thicke ties his personal longest No. 1 run on the chart set with "Lost Without U" in 2007. "Blurred Lines" is poised to tack on additional chart-topping weeks as it continues to increase its R&B/hip-hop audience reach, rising 1% to 22.9 million listener impressions, according to Nielsen BDS.

The track's reign on the Adult R&B airplay chart (viewable at billboard.biz) also rolls into its third week, while Thicke simultaneously breaks into the top 10 with follow-up single "For the Rest of My Life" (11-10). Only one other artist has posted two concurrent top 10s at the format this year: Tamar Braxton with "Love & War" and "The One" in three frames last month. No artists achieved this feat in 2012.

Though staying put at No. 2 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Jay Z's "Holy Grail," featuring Justin Timberlake, jumps 13-8 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay marking the rapper's 29th top 10 hit on the list. Jay now sits in third place for most top 10s among all acts in the nearly 21-year history of the chart, trailing Lil Wayne (40), Drake (33), and R. Kelly (30).

Today, TMZ published a video interview with Marvin Gaye III, who said his family sees Thicke and Co.’s preemptive legal strike as a “slap in the face,” and while he didn’t outright say that he’s going to sue them back, he basically implied that the hammer of Thor will be laid upon Thicke for all of his alleged thievery.

Aretha Franklin Has 'Miraculous' Recovery to Mystery Illness

Newser.com:
No one knows what was wrong with Aretha Franklin recently, but whatever it was, she's currently experiencing a "miraculous" recovery from it, she tells the AP. Health problems have forced Franklin to cancel concerts and appearances over the past few months, including one just this past weekend, but she won't say what exactly the problem is. "I'm not one to go into my personal health things," she says. But she will say this: "My treatments are going very well. My last CAT scan, my doctor at the CAT scan and everyone who sees this says that this is miraculous, absolutely miraculous."

"I was talking to Smokey Robinson, my oldest best friend Smokey, talking about the fact that some doctors are not very well acquainted with faith healing," she continues. "And Smokey said, 'Well, they just don't know who your healer is.'" She offers up a few hints about her condition: It's common to women, and partly related to a previous health concern (which she was also cagey about). Whatever's going on with her is apparently keeping her from next week's US Open tennis championships, which is a bummer, because she says was planning to wear a "hot, hot, hot three-piece Escada short set ... with some fine platforms, but doggone it, I'm just not up to traveling quite as far as New York."

Jennifer Lopez Alleged Stalker Vacationed In Her Hamptons Mansion

TMZ.com:
Someone's been sleeping in Jennifer Lopez's pool house, and it ain't Goldilocks -- cops arrested an alleged stalker who somehow managed to live in the pool house of her massive Hamptons mansion ... for several days ...  without getting noticed.

According to Southampton police, 49-year-old John M. Dubis basically moved in to J.Lo's $10 million pad sometime in early August.

He reportedly walked around the estate freely, hanging out openly in view of neighbors... and even posted Facebook photos of himself all over the grounds, such as the one below -- before police finally busted him on Aug. 8.
And how's this for weird ... two days before his arrest, Dubis dropped by a nearby menswear store and purchased a plaid overcoat.

Jennifer was not home, but the shocking part is security guards were patrolling the property.

Of course, you have to remember the 8,500 sq. foot home sits on 3 acres -- and it's a decent hike out to the pool house from the main quarters.

La Toya Jackson to Star in Off-Broadway Play

ContactMusic.com:
La Toya Jackson is to star in the off-Broadway production of 'NEWSical the Musical' in New York City, which merges celebrity and political scandals with catchy music.
La Toya Jackson is to star in a New York play.
The 57-year-old actress will take over from Emmy-winning television star Jackée Harry for a week in Rick Crom's off-Broadway production of 'NEWSical the Musical', which merges celebrity and political scandals with catchy music, before deciding whether to return to theatre permanently.

Speaking to the New York Post newspaper, she said: ''I've wanted to do [theatre] but on Broadway the shows play for such a long, extended time.''

Meanwhile, the singer-songwriter has been tied up in the wrongful death lawsuit filed by her family against AEG live.

The Jackson's are suing the company as they believe they negligently hired and supervised Dr. Conrad Murray - who is currently serving four years imprisonment for involuntary manslaughter - who administered the lethal dose of Propofol which killed her brother Michael Jackson in 2009.

Only one member of the Jackson family are allowed to be present in the court room at one time, which Toya says has been challenging for her mother, Katherine Jackson.

She said: ''I speak to my mother every day. This has been very taxing on her. But she's so strong. She's holding up so well. We were all there for the last trial.''

Keke Wyatt She’s More Than An R&B Singer

EURWeb.com:
*Keke Wyatt says don’t try to put her on lockdown. She’s more than an R&B singer.

“I love real R&B, but we ain’t living in the ’90s R&B no more. We ain’t living in the ’80s R&B,” Keke told Sister 2 Sister. “Things change. Times change.”

She said she’s still young, and although she made songs reminiscent of classic R&B when she did “You and I” with Avant, there’s a limited audience listening to that music these days.

“The only people that’s going to be listening to that now is adult contemporary, and I’m just in my 30s,” she said. “I still like to listen to the Chris Browns and the Keri Hilsons and the Beyoncés.

Keke grew up in a biracial household. Her mother loved country, while her dad listened to gospel and R&B; which she says was not her music of choice.

“From the very beginning of my career, I was pushed into a certain genre of music. I’ve always loved all types of music,” she said. “There’s really no music that I don’t like or that I don’t listen to.”

As for singing classic R&B in the future, don’t hold your breath, she says, “Ain’t nobody tryin’ to go back to the ’90s. The kids aren’t going to listen to it. I’m trying to reach everybody Alicia [Keys] is reaching, everybody Beyoncé’s reaching. I’m doing it Keke style.

Manager Says Raz B Coma Report Was A Hoax

CNN.com:
An online media report that R&B singer De'Mario "Raz B" Thornton was in a coma in China was a hoax, according to his agent.

The R&B singer was hurt in a nightclub brawl near Shanghai, but his injuries were not serious, manager Elayne Rivers told CNN Monday.

"The comments about Raz being in a coma did not come from his official representative," Rivers said.

The singer's brother, who performs under the name Ricky Romance, said in a statement sent to CNN Monday afternoon that he had been "misled by unknown reasons."

"I was unfortunately unable to contact my brother at the time and then panicked," Romance said. "I then alerted as many people of this information hoping to gather facts... Since the source that gave me this information was what I thought to be legitimately reliable I didn't question I just believed. I apologize if I seem like I jumped to conclusions but a coma is a serious situation and it was concerning my brother whom is my best friend as well. I sincerely apologize for the confusion I caused if that is the case."

A celebrity news website first reported the original member of the boy band B2K was in a coma Saturday, identifying its source as Toy Jones.

Although Jones gave CNN the same information Sunday, she declined to give the name of the hospital -- only saying it was in the Zhejiang province near Shanghai.

Several hours later, Jones sent CNN a written statement saying the singer had miraculously recovered from the coma and would be released from the hospital in days.
The unedited statement reads: "Doctor says Numerous Brain scans showed that Raz's entire cortex- the parts of the brain that give us consciousness, thought, Memory and understanding is now functioning. Doctors say its a miracle and told his family that he stands a strong chance of survival and no signs of being brain dead for the rest of his life against all odds,Raz woke up this morning and is in stable condition We ask the the fans and media respect our family's privacy"
CNN chose not to report the story until the story until details could be confirmed by the U.S. State Department, officials at the U.S. embassy in China or Chinese officials. Raz B also reached out personally to CNN in an e-mail asking that nothing be published.

Beyonce Booed At V Festival After Arriving 20 Minutes Late

HuffPo.com:
Beyonce was allegedly met with a chorus of boos when she took to the V Festival stage 20 minutes late Saturday night in England.

According to WENN, Queen Bey was jeered after keeping thousands of concertgoers waiting in the pouring rain and wind at Hylands Park in Chelmsford. Beyonce was then booed when she finally arrived, before kicking off her headlining set with "Run the World (Girls)."

Being late wasn't Beyonce's only issue. "The sound was so terrible people were just walking away halfway through her set," one attendee told U.K.'s Metro.

WENN reported the superstar gave a shout-out to those in the crowd who remained patient, saying, "Thank you all so much for waiting in the rain ... Now let's have some fun in the rain. It feels good doesn't it."

The delayed arrival wasn't the only disappointment the "Bow Down" singer delivered to fans. Those watching at home were unable to view any of Beyonce's V Fest performance on television because she allegedly didn't give Channel 4 broadcasting rights, according to NME. Viewers expected to see highlights from her show, but hosts Edith Bowman and Steve Jones hinted that the 31-year-old refused to give them clearance.

Despite the minor snafus, Beyonce still delivered a riveting performance, according to one critic.

"She has an innate talent with a crowd, an almost tribal ability to lead," wrote The Independent's India Ross. "Her every turn, glance and flash of teeth only add to an aura of cool feminine domination. She is musically lukewarm, but theatrically unique."

Janelle Monae’s ‘The Electric Lady’ Tracklist and Artwork Leak

TheBoombox.com:
It appears that a slip-up on Target’s website has led to the leak of the artwork and track listing for Janelle Monae‘s highly anticipated new album, ‘The Electric Lady.’

While the Target listing went up and down without much notice, the team at HipHop-N-More caught the leak. It reveals that the beautifully voiced songstress will be joined by the likes of Prince, Miguel, and Erykah Badu across the two-disc, 20-track record. Prince is featured on a cut titled ‘Givin’ Em What They Love’ that, hopefully, will be blessed with one of his trademark guitar solos — and his falsetto, of course.

The track listing might appear to house a lot of music, and it definitely is, but it’s not out of ordinary for Monae. Her full-length debut, ‘The ArchAndroid,’ featured 18 songs in total with some barely reaching two minutes and others extending past six minutes.
Now for the track listing. ‘The Electric Lady’ is due out Sept. 10.
Disc 1:
1. Suite IV Electric Overture
2. Givin Em What They Love (Feat. Prince)
3. Q.U.E.E.N. (Feat. Erykah Badu)
4. Electric Lady (Feat. Solange)
5. Good Morning Midnight (interlude)
6. PrimeTime (Feat. Miguel)
7. We Were Rock & Roll
8. The Chrome Shoppe (interlude)
9. Dance Apocalyptic
10. Look Into My Eyes
Disc 2:
12. Suite V Electric Overture
13. It’s Code
14. Ghetto Woman
15. Our Favorite Fugitive (interlude)
16. Victory
17. Can’t Live Without Your Love
18. Sally Ride
19. Dorothy Dandridge Eyes (Feat. Esperanza Spalding)
20. What An Experience

Robin Thicke Sues Marvin Gaye's Family To Protect Hit Single 'Blurred Lines'

HuffPo.com:
Many have noted the similarity between Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give It Up" and Robin Thicke's song-of-the-summer smash hit "Blurred Lines," and now Thicke has gone on the offensive to ensure that the sonic likeness of the two songs doesn't end up costing him any money.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news late Thursday: Thicke, along with Pharrell Williams and T.I., filed a lawsuit against Gaye's family and Bridgeport Music. In the case, the trio of music makers say they have "the utmost respect for and admiration of Marvin Gaye, Funkadelic and their musical legacies," but must "reluctantly file this action in the face of multiple adverse claims from alleged successors in interest to those artists."

Gaye's family and Funkadelic (the relevant compositions of whom are owned by Bridgeport), have insisted that "Blurred Lines" is too similar to their original songs. Here's a bit of the tick-tock, courtesy of the Hollywood Reporter:
The suit claims the Gaye family is alleging that "Blurred Lines" and Gaye's "Got to Give It Up" "feel" or "sound" the same, and that the "Gaye defendants are claiming ownership of an entire genre, as opposed to a specific work."
As for Funkadelic, there's said to be claimed similarity between Thicke's hit and Funakedlic's "Sexy Ways."
"But there are no similarities between plaintiffs' composition and those the claimants allege they own, other than commonplace musical elements," states the lawsuit. "Plaintiffs created a hit and did it without copying anyone else's composition
"Blurred Lines" is currently in its tenth week atop the Billboard Hot 100, making it summer's biggest song. The lawsuit, however, isn't the first controversy to hit the track — an earlier dust-up with critics who found the lyrics and x-rated music video to be misogynistic was eventually brushed aside by Thicke himself.

Raz B on Life Support After Bottle Attack in China

UPI.com:
Raz B's publicist says the R&B singer is on life support in a hospital in China after he was smashed in the face with a bottle at a nightclub.

"He is in a coma and needs as many prayers as possible," the Cleveland native's spokesman, Toy Jones, told TMZ Friday.

The 28-year-old recording artist, whose real name is De'Mario Monte Thornton, was performing Thursday when he was hurt while trying to break up a fight in the audience, the celebrity news website said.

He had minor surgery to repair a gash in his lip and was released from the hospital.

However, he didn't wake up Friday morning and was taken back to the medical facility where he has been slipping in and out of consciousness, and breathing with the help of a ventilator, Jones told TMZ.

The report did not say if any arrests were made following the brawl. Also not mentioned was exactly where the altercation took place.

Chris Brown Is Off the Hook in Hit-and-Run Case

GossipCenter.com:
Catching a break in the legal system, a Los Angeles judge dismissed a hit-and-run driving charge against Chris Brown this afternoon (August 15).

City News Service reports the misdemeanor was dropped and the judge said the 24-year-old singer reached a civil compromise with the other driver.

Chris was not at the hearing but was represented by his attorney, Mark Geragos who said Brown accidentally gave the woman the wrong insurance information after his Range Rover struck her Mercedes in Toluca Lake in May.Mark added that Brown's insurance did cover the $800 in damage to the Mercedes.

Meanwhile, City prosecutor Patrick Hiscocks objected to the dismissal, saying the "Turn Up the Music" singer was still on probation at the time of the crash for assaulting his ex-girlfriend Rihanna back in 2009.

Hiscocks added that the other driver felt she was "castigated" on social media after the crash.

Miguel Arrested for DUI in Los Angeles

ABCNews.com:
Singer-songwriter Miguel, 27, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol early this morning, ABC News has confirmed.

The “Kaleidoscope Dream” singer was stopped in his BMW X6 at 2:15 a.m. today for speeding and tinted windows, a spokeswoman for the West LAPD told ABC News station KABC.

The Grammy winner’s sobriety test revealed a blood alcohol level of .10, which is beyond the .08 legal limit in California, police said.

He was cooperative and released on $5,000 bail a few hours later around 5 a.m., officials added.

Miguel won a Grammy Award this past year for Best R&B Song for “Adorn.” In addition to the win, he was nominated in four other categories, including Song of the Year and Best Rap Song.

His arrest report, obtained by ABC News, said the singer, whose full name is Miguel Pimentel, was scheduled to be back in court Sept. 9 in Los Angeles.

Dammit Prince.

His 2nd tweet read -- "PRINCE'S 2ND TWEET."

Followed by Tweet #3 -- a photo of his over-peppered salad, with the caption, "DID EYE ADD 2 MUCH PEPPER?"

Yes, Prince ... you did.

Ex-wife Debbie Rowe says Doctors Competed to Give Michael Jackson Painkillers

CNN.com:
Two German doctors treated Michael Jackson's insomnia with propofol 12 years before he died from an overdose of the surgical anesthetic, his former wife testified Wednesday.

Debbie Rowe, who is the mother of Jackson's two oldest children, is being forced to testify about the singer's drug use by lawyers for AEG Live, the concert promoter being sued by members of Jackson's family, who say the promoter is responsible for his death.

Doctors "would try to outbid" each other on who could give Michael Jackson "the better drug" for his pain, Rowe testified Wednesday.

Jackson family matriarch Katherine Jackson sat Wednesday morning in the front row of the small courtroom, where she has spent much of the past 16 weeks watching the trial.

Dr. Allen Metzger -- Jackson's general practitioner in the United States -- arranged for the German anesthesiologists to infuse the singer with propofol in a Munich hotel in July 1997 after sedatives failed to help him sleep between concerts, Rowe testified.

"I think they tried it and it hadn't worked and if he couldn't sleep, he couldn't perform," she testified. Jackson "was at the end of his rope; he didn't know what else to do."

Ola Ray, 'Thriller' Actress, Dedicates Crazy Music Video To Michael Jackson

HuffPo.com:
It's been four years since Michael Jackson's death, and the throng of tributes that have poured out of the music industry have inspired and touched anyone familiar with the King of Pop's legacy. But now a new, rather unique tribute has emerged -- one that just might top all of its predecessors in its oddness.

The devotee in question is Ola Ray, the 52-year-old former Playboy model who is perhaps best known for having starred as Jackson's girlfriend in the iconic 1983 "Thriller" video. She's recorded her first single, "Remember," which she labels a tribute to Jackson, and produced an accompanying video that is, let's just say, a few steps removed from the quality of "Thriller."

Ray's video often finds her in front of a green screen -- literally. She sings portions of the song in front of some sort of green backdrop, while other moments find her mimicking the "Thriller" dance, donning a thin coat of zombie makeup and surrounding herself with cartoon smoke amid breathtaking production values.

We applaud Ray's attempt to pay homage to Jackson, particularly after she successfully sued the singer's estate in 2009 for uncollected royalties. But the newfound singer might want to stick to her day job, whatever that might be.

Tweet Talks About New Music and Joining ‘R&B Divas’

EurWeb.com:
Southern song bird Tweet has never been a consistent artist and thus has been missing from the game for a while now. But she’s decided to bring her music back to the radio with a brand new dose of honey dripping love.

In an interview with Singersroom, she chatted about “Southern Hummingbird” and her latest EP, “Simply Tweet.”

Singersroom: You’ve said you’re in a different place than when you recorded Southern Hummingbird. How so?
Tweet: Spiritually, I’m in a different place and of course I’m older now. Southern Hummingbird, I was basically free to do whatever I wanted to do, but I was still a little timid coming out of being in a group. Very insecure, and didn’t even wanna be a solo artist so that’s the difference. But now I know what I wanna do, I know I’m a solo artist, I write and all that stuff, so I’m in a different place that way as well.

Singersroom: Has time redefined you or are you going to give us classic Tweet?
Tweet: I can’t stray from who I am, I can’t compromise my sound. I think more so now I’m tuned into really who I am. Southern Hummingbird was just the tip of the iceberg for me. Again, like I said, I was very timid and very insecure, but now I’m secure in knowing who I am as an artist, as a woman, so you’ll see that on this album. So it’s still classic Tweet, but I’m singing a little more on this, very confident in my vocal skills.

Singersroom: Would you be interested in joining the cast of R&B Divas?
Tweet: I was actually supposed to be on the first show [season], and unfortunately, I decided to focus on my music because I didn’t really wanna be on a show really not doing anything, and I’m still open to doing something like that.

Copyright Lawsuit Targets Cover Songs on YouTube

NYTimes.com:
In the latest sign of friction over the licensing of online music, a group of music publishers has sued Fullscreen, one of the largest suppliers of videos to YouTube, saying that many of Fullscreen’s videos — particularly cover versions of popular songs — infringe on the publishers’ copyrights.

Fullscreen is one of the largest of the so-called multichannel networks, or M.C.N.'s, which produce their own content — the company’s offices are in Culver Studios in Los Angeles, where “Gone With the Wind” and “Citizen Kane” were filmed — and represent the work of thousands of other creators of widely varying sizes. According to Fullscreen, the 15,000 channels the company represents have a total of 200 million subscribers and draw more than 2.5 billion views each month.

Among the most popular videos on YouTube are cover versions of popular songs, often by amateurs or semiprofessionals who have built a following online. But according to the suit, filed in United States District Court in Manhattan on Tuesday by groups represented by the National Music Publishers’ Association, most of these lack the proper licenses and do not pay publishers and songwriters the royalties earned from ad revenue. (Publishers represent the music and lyrics underlying songs, not recordings of them, which are covered by a separate copyright.)

According to the suit, Fullscreen and its founder, George Strompolos, who is named as a defendant, “have willfully ignored their obligation to obtain licenses and pay royalties to exploit the vast majority of the musical content disseminated over Fullscreen’s networks.” A spokeswoman for Fullscreen declined to comment.

The publishers represented in the suit include Warner/Chappell Music, which is owned by the Warner Music Group and is one of the biggest publishers, along with several independents like Songs Music Publishing and Peermusic. An exhibit submitted with the suit lists dozens of songs that Fullscreen is accused of using without proper licenses, including hits by Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Britney Spears and others.

As YouTube has become the default listening service for young people, the music industry has frequently sparred with YouTube and its owner, Google, over the licensing issues, which can be confusingly opaque.

YouTube, for example, is responsible for the licensing and royalties of user-generated content loaded directly to its system, but often yields that responsibility to M.C.N.'s and other major partners.

In turn, those networks have come under fire from music groups, and negotiations have been slow. In February, Fullscreen and Maker Studios announced licensing deals with the Universal Music Publishing Group, one of the largest publishers, but most others had no such deals.

An announcement on Tuesday about the publishers’ suit against Fullscreen suggested that it had been prompted by a breakdown in licensing negotiations. At the same time that it announced the suit, the association said it had reached an agreement in principle with Maker Studios on licensing.

Jury Applauds Witness in Michael Jackson Death Trial

CNN.com:
Jurors hearing the Michael Jackson wrongful death case seem to be enjoying themselves after 15 weeks of testimony, even after the judge told them they could be in court through September.

They've leaned forward, taken close notes and often laughed while watching lawyers for Michael Jackson's mother and children spar with attorneys for concert promoter AEG Live.

"I'm not going to be babysitting you two," Judge Yvette Palazuelos told Jackson lawyer Brian Panish and AEG Live lawyer Marvin Putnam this week as the attorneys traded barbs in court.

Several jurors even applauded famed choreographer and director Kenny Ortega at the end of his lengthy testimony Thursday.

While some of the 65 days of testimony has covered tedious medical and legal ground, Jackson's music and intimate home videos are often shown on two big screens in the tiny Los Angeles courtroom
The jurors were getting an inside look Friday at how Jackson's family tried to intervene in the singer's prescription drug use as AEG Live's lawyers showed them video of their questioning of Randy Jackson, Michael Jackson's youngest brother.

The jury will eventually have a billion-dollar decision to make: Is AEG Live liable in Jackson's death and, if so, how much should the promoter-producer of his comeback tour pay the family in damages?

Katherine Jackson and her grandchildren -- Prince, Paris and Blanket -- contend AEG Live negligently hired, retained or supervised Dr. Conrad Murray, the physician now serving a prison term for involuntary manslaughter in Jackson's death.

Lil Mo Goes In On ‘R&B Divas: LA’ Co-star Dawn Robinson

S2Smagazine.com:
While she wouldn’t describe any of her “R&B Divas: LA” co-stars as “ratchet,” Lil Mo said there is at least one fellow singer she considers a “cowardly lion.”

“She’s like 63-years-old. She needs to stop. Grow up,” Lil Mo said about former EnVogue singer Dawn Robinson. “You supposed to be leading us to the water. You supposed to lead us to the Red Sea and get us to the Promised Land. I’m out here with four kids and helping you get your $#!t.”

To back up her claim, Mo referred to incidents on the show in which Dawn seemed to rely heavily on Kelly Price. Fans of the series have likely noted the cast members’ division that resulted after Kelly hired one director to work on the ladies’ project, while Mo and Chante Moore had already approved another.

Dawn, the oldest of the ladies on the show at 47, is seemingly Team Kelly and continually asks the younger singer for her advice and leadership when it comes to their upcoming “Not Your Mama’s Monologue” show, which may or may not see the light of day.

After seeing how Dawn operates within a group, Mo suggested that her personality might have something to do with her departure from the ‘90s ensemble.

“That’s why you probably got kicked out of the group. No shade,” she said on “The Breakfast Club” radio show. “Now, I see why they X’d her out.”

Mo and Dawn haven’t had a one-on-one confrontation on the show yet, but according to next week’s preview, one is on the way.

911 Call Placed After Chris Brown Allegedly Has Seizure

VladTV.com:
The Los Angeles Fire Dept. was summoned to a Hollywood recording studio early Friday morning after getting a 911 call that Chris Brown had a seizure, TMZ reports.

The call was placed by someone at Record Plant recording studios at 1:09 a.m. When EMTs arrived, Breezy apparently refused treatment and also refused to be transported to the hospital.

It's not clear if this was indeed a seizure, but TMZ reports that Brown did suffer from seizures as a child.

Usher Wins In Court: Judge Denies Tameka Foster Raymond’s Emergency Custody Request

CNN.com:
A Georgia judge Friday dismissed an emergency motion filed by the ex-wife of music mogul Usher Raymond seeking temporary custody of their son.

The judge ruled that even though the 5-year-old child was injured in a swimming pool accident this week, it was not an emergency or crisis situation requiring that Usher's two children be taken from him.

The child, Usher Raymond V, remains hospitalized but is doing "much better," his mother posted on Twitter.
"What happened here was an awful accident and... I'm not certain that had any single person been at the poolside that one person could have done any better than Ms. Oden. And Ms. Oden did impress me as a capable caregiver," Fulton County Superior Court Judge John Goger said, referring to the boy's aunt, Rena Oden, who was caring for the child at the time of the accident.

"Based on the evidence I heard, not one person could have done any better than Ms. Oden," the judge added.

The judge then addressed Usher's ex-wife, Tameka Foster Raymond: "Your standards for caregivers are rather high," Goger said, pointing out that most people have been watched by a grandmother or aunt.

The judge instructed Usher to keep his ex-wife informed about his whereabouts and who's taking care of their two children.

At Friday's emergency custody hearing in Atlanta, Usher, as he is known in his career as a singer and actor, testified that he waited an hour to inform his ex-wife that their son had nearly drowned in a swimming pool accident because "the first thing to do was to respond to the emergency... My son was hysterical and in the back of an ambulance."

His ex-wife testified earlier that she does not trust the childcare of Raymond's aunt who was present when their son fell into the pool.

Foster Raymond also said Usher does not keep her informed about who is taking of their children or the doings in the children's lives.

George Duke, Keyboardist Who Crossed Genre Boundaries, Dies at 67

NYTimes.com:
George Duke, who began his career as a jazz pianist in the 1960s but made his name by crossing musical boundaries, died on Monday in Santa Monica, Calif. He was 67.

He had suffered heart complications after being treated for chronic lymphocytic leukemia, said his manager, Darryl Porter, who confirmed the death.

The name of the instrument with which Mr. Duke is perhaps most closely associated also describes his approach to music: synthesizer. While he remained a respected figure in the jazz world, over the years he also played keyboards with Frank Zappa and Michael Jackson, sang lead on a Top 20 single and produced pop and rhythm-and-blues hits for others. His work has been sampled by hip-hop and electronic artists, including Daft Punk.

“I was in a rock band, I played with a bunch of Brazilians, I played R&B with Parliament-Funkadelic and all of that,” he said in an interview before his most recent album, “DreamWeaver,” was released last month. “I mean, I’ve done jazz with Miles Davis and Cannonball Adderley. It’s a goulash. It’s a gumbo.”

Mr. Duke, who as a small boy begged his mother to buy him a piano after she took him to see Duke Ellington, began playing professionally at a time when many musicians were interested in blending genres. He played in a trio that backed the singer Al Jarreau while he was still a teenager, then accompanied Dizzy Gillespie and other jazz musicians at clubs in San Francisco. By the early 1970s he had performed and recorded with Adderley, the jazz violinist Jean-Luc Ponty and Zappa’s Mothers of Invention. (His long stint with Zappa included an appearance, with the rest of the band, in the feature film “200 Motels.”)

Zappa “told me one day that I should play synthesizers,” Mr. Duke wrote on his Web site. “It was as simple as that!” Urged by Zappa, he said, he experimented with a few types of synthesizers before settling on the ARP Odyssey, “purely to be different from Jan Hammer, who was playing the Minimoog.” Mr. Hammer was a member of the guitarist John McLaughlin’s Mahavishnu Orchestra, one of the first jazz-rock fusion bands to achieve widespread success.

As a leader, Mr. Duke focused in the middle and late 1970s on groove-oriented funk. His versatility also made him a sought-after collaborator. Working in Rio de Janeiro in 1979, he recorded one of his best-known albums, “A Brazilian Love Affair,” with the singers Milton Nascimento and Flora Purim. He also worked with other major names in fusion, including the drummer Billy Cobham, with whom he was co-leader of a band in the 1970s, and the bassist Stanley Clarke, with whom he formed the Clarke/Duke Project in 1981.
By that time he had become more of a pop act, singing and often playing a hand-held synthesizer while standing center stage in concert. Collaborating with Mr. Clarke, he wrote and sang “Sweet Baby,” a ballad that became his first pop hit, reaching No. 19 on the Billboard singles chart in 1981. Soon after that the duo had another hit with “Shine On,” which reached No. 41.

While he pursued a career as a leader, he continued to participate in recording sessions for notable albums like Michael Jackson’s “Off the Wall” and to produce other artists. In 1984 he produced Deniece Williams’s No. 1 hit “Let’s Hear It for the Boy.” Among the other singers whose records he produced were Jeffrey Osborne, Angela Bofill, the duo A Taste of Honey and the jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves, who was his cousin.
His song “I Love You More” was sampled by Daft Punk for the 2001 hit “Digital Love.”

Mr. Duke was born on Jan. 12, 1946, in San Rafael, Calif, near San Francisco. He grew up listening to gospel music in the Baptist church his family attended. He graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 1967.

His survivors include two sons, John and Rashid. His wife, Corine, died last year.

Critics sometimes said that Mr. Duke’s music was too smooth, not challenging enough, and that he was too eager to court a broad audience. He disagreed.

“I really think it’s possible (and still do) to make good music and be commercial at the same time,” Mr. Duke wrote. “I believe it is the artist’s responsibility to take the music to the people. Art for art’s sake is nice; but if art doesn’t communicate, then its worth is negated. It has not fulfilled its destiny.”
