Friday Night Throwback: Mark Morrison - "Return of the Mack"
Featuring a sample of Chuckii Booker's "Games", Mark Morrison's 1996 single "Return of the Mack" catapulted the British urban artist to newfound fame as the track became a Top Ten hit across Europe, while opening the U.S. market for him. With the hit single, Morrison, a gifted singer whose career up to that point had been plagued by run-ins with the law, became the first black male solo artist to reach number one in the '90s. His debut album, also titled Return of the Mack, followed and peaked at number four. "Let's Get Down," the album's 3rd single, reached the Top 40 that summer.
