Friday Night Throwback: Janet Jackson - "The Pleasure Principle"

With the terrific news that Janet Jackson is working on her first new album in seven years this fall, this week's Friday Night Throwback is dedicated to the legendary singer. "The Pleasure Principle", the sixth single from the Janet's third studio album Control, was released in 1987. Written and produced by Monte Moir, the "independent woman" anthem debuted at number 78 on the Billboard Hot 100 and later reached its peak at number 14 on August 1, 1987. And while "The Pleasure Principle" became the only song released by Jackson to miss the top ten, nevertheless it became her fifth chart-topper on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and her third on the Hot Dance Club Play. The song is also remembered for its 'iconic', dance-heavy video directed Dominic Sena and a former MTV staple.
