Throwback Thursday: Tracy Chapman - "Baby Can I Hold You"
Mostly known for her hit singles "Fast Car" and "Give Me One Reason", folk/pop/soul singer Tracy Chapman scored a minor hit with 1988's "Baby Can I Hold You", the third single from her self-titled debut album. Written by Chapman and produced by David Kershenbaum, "Baby Can I Hold You" reached the top fifty in the United States and gave Chapman a second chart entry on the US Adult Contemporary charts, peaking at #19 in early 1989. Chapman subsequently re-recorded the song as a duet with Luciano Pavarotti for the CD Pavarotti and Friends for Cambodia and Tibet.
