Written and produced by Janet Jackson along with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, "That's the Way Love Goes", the lead single from Jackson's 1993 album janet, remains one of Janet's biggest hits to date. The single topped the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks, making it the longest running number one single of any member of the Jackson family on the Hot 100. Filled with lustful connotations and a more R&B/funk backdrop, which at the time was a departure from Janet's sonically more pop-ish tunes, "That's the Way Love Goes" received a Grammy Award for Best R&B song in addition to Billboard Awards, BMI Pop Award for Most Played Song, BPI Sales Awards, American Music Awards, and Soul Train Awards.
