Throwback Thursday: Aretha Franklin - "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)"
No. 1 for seven straight weeks, Aretha Franklin's 1967 single "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)" was the first big hit of the legendary singer's career. Up until that point Franklin had made nine albums while under contract to Columbia Records, but had remained commercially unsuccessful. Written by Ronnie Shannon and produced by Jerry Wexler after Franklin was let go from Columbia and signed by Atlantic Records, upon its release "I Never Loved a Man" rose to #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became Franklin's first #1 hit on the R&B charts.
