Throwback Thursday Video: Tina Turner - "Private Dancer”
Originally written by rocker Mark Knopfler for his band Dire Straits, "Private Dander" (a sultry tune about a stripper who prefers to consider herself a 'private dancer'), was pitched to Tina Turner, in part, because it was thought that the song should be sung by a woman instead of a man. Turner, who was just making a comeback to music, quickly fell in love with the song and added it to her fifth solo album Private Dancer (1984). Produced by John Carter, "Private Dancer" was released as the album's fifth single. The track reached number seven on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number three on the US R&B chart.
