Friday Night Throwback: Musiq Soulchild - "Dontchange"
With the recent announcement by rapper The Husel that we may have to say goodbye to alter-ego Musiq Soulchild forever, it's only fitting that this week's Friday Night Throwback is dedicated to the Philadelphia soul singer. "Don'tchange", the 2nd single released from Musiq’s 2nd album, justlisen, was accompanied by a very sweet and emotional music video that aptly dealt with the trials and tribulations of relationships as well as the bond that makes for forever lasting love. The 2002 single would debut on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart on August 10, spending 42 weeks on the chart and reaching a peak position at number 3. The song hit # 1 on the Adult R&B chart and stayed there for 9 weeks from November 9, 2002 to February 7, 2003.

Johnny Kemp Found Dead in Jamaica's Montego Bay Ocean at 55

Bahamian R&B singer Johnny Kemp, best known for the 1988 party anthem "Just Got Paid," died this week in Jamaica.
The singer is believed to have drowned at a beach in Montego Bay on Thursday, the Jamaica Constabulatory Force said in a press release. The statement listed his age as 54, but other reports say he was 55."Passersby saw Kemp's body floating faced down in the water" around 9:50 a.m., the statement said. "Police were summoned and the body removed to the morgue."Kemp was scheduled to perform on the Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage Cruise, parent company Reach Media Inc. said in a statement. He had not boarded the ship."Just Got Paid" was a No. 1 hit on the U.S. Billboard R&B chart and earned Kemp a Grammy nomination.

Friday Night Throwback: Stacy Lattisaw & Johnny Gill - "Where Do We Go From Here"
Written by noted songwriter/producer LeMel Humes (whose credits include sides by Stephanie Mills and Miki Howard), Staci Lattisaw's 1990 single/duet "Where Do We Go From Here," captured the tone of her and then-boyfriend Johnny Gill's personal relationship (the two grew up together in Washington D.C.). From Lattisaw's 9th album What You Need, "Where Do We Go From Here" peaked at number one on the Billboard R&B chart for two weeks in the first part of '90. After the single's release Gill would move on to a very successful career as a solo artist and as a member of New Edition. While Lattisaw, who signed her first record deal at the age of 13 and had a string of Top 40 kits in the 80's, would quickly move on from R&B and Pop to become an exclusive gospel music singer.

One of the originators to cement the early Motown sound, in a span of over 40 years the quartet (lead singer Levi Stubbs, and groupmates Abdul "Duke" Fakir, Renaldo "Obie" Benson and Lawrence Payton) that made up The Four Tops, would become one of the world's most popular and long-lived vocal groups.
